The Value of time

How You Use the Minutes

I had an interview 120 miles away at 9.30am and I wanted the job. Living in a capital city, I didn't own a car so I rented one - for 3 days. I picked it up the day before and ensured it was in perfect condition for the journey. At 3am the next morning I set off for the 2 hour journey. At 5.30am I found myself sitting in my car on the hills overlooking the town where the interview would take place watching the sun rise, relaxed and confident that I would complete the final 2 miles in perfect time. To fill in the vacant hours I read my novel which I was thoroughly enjoying and arrived at the interview utterly relaxed 10 minutes before time.

What would have happened if there had been a major accident en route and I had been seriously delayed? How would I have reached the interview if the car had experienced a fault? It may not surprise you that I had a plan for both eventualities; however I arrived on time and well prepared.

I got the job and went on to be very succesful with the company for many years.

This is respect for someone's time, both my own and the time of the interviewers. Many might consider this a waste of time but value is not about filling every minute with action. It's about using the time available to reach the desired conclusion.

There is No Excuse for Lateness

When did you decide you would be late? When did you stop trying?

You should go to extraordinary lengths to ensure you are never late for anyone. Even when it becomes apparent that there is a problem, you keep trying. Remaining alert for opportunities may improve the situation.

Being resigned to inevitable failure simply ensures you are as late as you decided you would be. Please don't ever be late for me.

Decisive Focus

A decisive focus on the value of your own time creates long term value.

If I need to decide between saving time or money, I save my own time.....but not at any expense.

My girlfriend needed the perfect green dress for a winter wedding. With the help of a Personal Stylist she found it in just one morning. Time saved, quality acheived. A perfect result.
